2002 Hall of Fame Inductees

Marshall McLin

Marshall was born in Silver Lake, Kansas in 1939 and has lived in the Silver Lake Community all his life. He has a wife Mary (for 34 years) and they have one daughter and one son. Marshall worked for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company for 37 years before retiring. He and wife Mary own a Christmas Tree Farm in Silver Lake.

He started bowling in 1958, and has been a member of ABC for 42 years and is currently a lifetime member. He has bowled in many tournaments, such as the Honkie, Southwest Atch-A-Kan, TBA City, TBA/TWBA City Mixed, Greater Ozarks Open, ABC National Tournament and the Kansas State Bowling Tournament for many years. In 1972 he was member of the Class A Team Champions in the Kansas State Bowling Tournament in 1992 he was a member of Division 1 TeamChampions in the TBA City Tournament. He qualified and won the 1998 Topeka Top Ten Senior Tournament, and finished fourth in 1999! He ahs been a Delegate at the National ABC delegates convention for many years.

Marshall has been on the Topeka Bowling Association's Board of Directors since 1975 serving as President Vice-President, Director as well as Chairman of numerous committees. He has served on the Kansas State Bowling Association's Board of Directors since 1990 as a Directory and currently the Vice President.

Marshall has over 40-700 series (736 high), and a high game of 28*9. He highest average came in 1998, when he recorded his personal best of 207. He is currently bowling in four leagues, and he and his wife have sponsored several bowling tams over the years.

He was President of the Youth Travel league for six years, and has service as a league President and Secretary for many years. He is a certified YABA coach. Five of his YABA bowlers that he coached have rolled the perfect 300 game. He is also a certified Lane Inspector for ABC

Marshall loves to go to bat for the bowlers and wishes there were ore he could do for them as a Local and State Board Member. Congratulations on being elected into the Kansas State Bowling Association's "Hall of Fame".

Wayne Heller

Wayne has bowled in the Abilene Bowling Association sine 1948. He has also been a member of the Salina, Junction City ad Manhattan Bowling Associations. He is married, with five children, eight grand children and on great grand child.

He has service as a League Secretary for over 20 years, while participating in the Abilene Bowling Association. He has also had the charge of the operations of the Abilene City Bowling tournament

Wayne has participated in many tournaments, such as the Kansas State Bowling Tournament, the Kansas State Senior Tournament, the Kansas State Elks and the Midwest Elks tournament and ABC National Tournament. His best and biggest highlight came in 1985 where he won the Doubles Event in the "Grater Ozarks Open Bowling Tournament.

Larry Heller

Larry is a member of the Manhattan Bowling Association since 1988. He has also been a member of the Abilene Bowling Association, where he service as a President of the Abilene Bowling Association for two years and a League Secretary for many tears, while in the Manhattan Bowling Association.

Larry is married, with two children, and resides in Wamego. He has participated in many tournaments, such as the Kansas State Bowling Tournament (over 20 years)., the Kansas State Elks Tournament (over 20 years), the Midwest Elks Tournament (over10 years), and the ABC National Tournament for over 15 years.

He currently is averaging 210 with 2-300 games to his credit and 1-299 game. He is a very faithful member of the Manhattan Bowling Association, where he helps with tier City Tournament and when when the Kansas State Bowling Tournament is in town, hi is always willing to assist in the working of this Tournament also.

We would like to thank him for all his efforts and dedication to the game of bowling, and proudly welcome him into the Kansas State Bowling Association's "Hall of Fame." Congratulations!

Gary May

Gary is a member of the WY-Jon Bowling Association where in 1988 he was elected into their Association's Hall of Fame.

He has traveled around the area, participating in several tournaments, such as the Kansas State Bowling Tournament (team champion in 1987 where his team recorded a 3557 scratch series the highest score ever bowled in the State Tournament), the Wy-Jon City Tournament (he has 4 scratch all-events titles and several Team Championships). He has competed in 37 ABC National Tournaments with a 192 accumulated average and a 6th place finish in the Team Event as his personal best.

In 1994 he bowled a 300 game, while bowling for the Mama Tios bowling team, and they recorded a team game of 134 scratch (which is the highest in history for 4 men and 1 woman). He ahs 8-300 games, and 3-800 series (with an 826 as his personal high) to his career. He has too many 7's to keep an accurate count. He has been a member of more than 40 classic league team championships. In 1982he recorded a 728 scratch series, while bowling for the S & H Bowling Team, when they bowled a record 3683 scratch series, which is still a record in the Kansas City area.

Gary has been a Director for the Wy-Jon bowling Association,a Director for the Southwest Bowling Association, a writer for the Kansas Sports Vue (In Wichita); a lane man for the Professional Women's Bowling Association and a lane man for AMF Pro Bowl since 1965.

As you can see, Gary has been involved in all areas of the game of bowling, on and off the Lanes, We appreciate all his dedication to the sport we all cherish and for this, we would like to welcome him into the Kansas State Bowling Association's "Hall of Fame." Congratulations!!

Bob Chappell

Bob started bowling in the AJBC youth league 1960 and is currently an active member. He has been involved in the bowling business since 1961 as a lane man, control counter personnel, a Manager and a Proprietor

Bob has competed in all forms of bowling,. At the local level, in Wichita he has eight Team Championships three Doubles Championships, two Single championships and two All-Events titles. In 1962 he was the "Wichita Bowler of the Year."

Bob has competed in over 30 Kansas State Bowling Tournaments! He has three Team Titles (1989, 1993 & 1996), while competing for Chilton Vending. He also has one Doubles Championship in 1994 with partner Mark Jensen.

He has competed in over 27 years at the A.B.C. National Tournament with 9 -1800 series, 4 - 1900 series and a composite average of 201 at this tournament. In 1989 he was a member of the Chilton Bowing Team, which won the team event. The team recorded a 3481 series, which was a record score. He has many high place finishes in this tournament.

He has been a P.B.A. member twice, from 1966-68 and again from 1974-78 . He has two top 24 finals in only four tournaments, and made the top 24 finals in an amazing 12 times for a 50% cash ratio, while competing on the P.B.A. Tour.
